About

During the latter half of 2009, Chris and Ying started their first foray into regular cooking. While both have cooked before, they are mostly a sporadic attempt with simple or familiar recipes. Once a month, twice at best. Since they decided to cook regularly, they’ve been cooking once or twice a week, sometime thrice; beginning with something simple and familiar to trying out new, interesting recipes.

Meanwhile, they started to learn how different spices and ingredients affect the flavour of the food they are making. Onwards to 2010, they both started to experiment with their own modifications, even coming up with new recipes from scratch (not all of them ended up in disaster, fortunately). Having an access to a library filled with shelves of recipe books helped too. Both of them combined typically have 4-5 cooking books on-loan for recipe testing.

Okay, enough of the third-person narrative: It has been real fun. ;)

Why cook?

Well good question! Believe it or not, the reasons were rather practical (while, hopefully, still idealistic enough). In the distant future (not too distant now), we want our kids to enjoy good, home-cooked food rather than spending time outside the home eating out or ordering take-outs. To that end, our cooking variety must be wide enough while maintaining good food quality and flavours. This way, we hope that our kids will spend more time at home, especially after they found out how horrible take-outs can taste. Well, we’re not that idealistic though, we expect our kids to find their own hauntings in the future, with food surpassing the flavours that we made ourselves. That is fine too. Although we hope that our kids still spend much time at home eating our good, home-cooked food.

On to something more practical: when we started our own home, we want to have fun cooking! Yeah, cooking is really fun. And cooking regularly can save you some money (regular being the keyword here).

Why this blog?

We don’t know. We wanted to keep our recipes in a simple book. But hey, we live in a digital era. What better way to record our recipes and modifications than in a blog? Plus, we can share them with our friends too. Hence the birth of this blog.

Well, we hope you have fun trying out some of these recipes too! Pray tell if you find good modifications to our recipes.
